Attempting to watch the last half of The Fly while eating a sandwich was an absolutely terrible idea.

You know, I'd never seen it before, it was mentioned in a book* I'm finishing, I decided to check it out. And Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis are quite adorable through most of the first half, before anyone's parts start falling off. Horrifying transporter accidents get wrapped up so much more happily on Star Trek. But yeah, I should probably have either postponed the sandwich or gone for Solaris instead. All the close encounters between humans and monsters/cyborgs/AI, but with 100% less corrosive vomiting or faces rotting off.

*this book, the lighter sequel to this. Both written by a follower of or at least junior member of a mutual admiration society with the guy who wrote this. (With some reservations, far more for the third than the first two, I liked all three books and both authors. That second guy apparently has enough followers on 4chan and similar places to show up in humorous image macros with his head photoshopped onto a frame of Peter Jackson's King Kong on top of the Empire State Building swatting away helicopters. Which doesn't even really surprise me. Because I don't know that much about guy #2 beyond that one book of his, but even from the one book of his that I have read (everything from the guillotine on the cover to a few things within that made me want/are calculated to make one want--to hurl the book across the room and start poking it with a stick), I do know he's a goddamn troll. Though I guess Kierkegaard was, too.)
