If you're curious what Master and Margarita is, it's a book by Mikhail Bulgakov, set in Stalinist Russia (Bulgakov lived and wrote in Russia during that time; the book was finally released only long after his death, and that at least initially only in a censored version) and loosely based on Faust. It's also a version of Faust in which Margarita/Gretchen takes a much more active role, and in which it is she and not Faust/her lover who makes a deal with the devil. (Thus you can in some ways more easily compare it to Puella Magi Madoka Magica than you can other versions of Faust. :)) This book has almost a cult status in Russia (and elsewhere) and you can check out this downright obsessive website about it to learn more.
This makes my whole damn day, you guys. It's a beautiful set of sketches, with a lot of the best scenes from the book depicted and designs for all of the major characters, and I can't stop staring at it. :D (I'm especially fond of her Woland. ♥)
